Hateful Foster Care Bill/Amendment
Here is the body of an email I sent to Representative Ken Paxton relating to SB6 (specifically Amendment No. 60, which makes it illegal for GLB people to provide foster care).
Emailed to Ken.Paxton@house.state.tx.us
Mr. Paxton,
I was disappointed over your support for Amendment Number 60 (Talton) to Senate Bill 6 which aims to tear foster families apart in Texas. It is disappointing that you would rather see children returned to institutions, rather than continue to live in a loving environment with a family that just happens to have two parents of the same sex.
Your support of this amendment suggests that you believe that children will be better looked after, and receive the attention they need, in state institutions rather than in a loving, family environment. You also seem to suggest that it is okay for this extra financial burden to be absorbed by the taxpayers of Texas (which seems contradictory to the statements that you have made in the press article you circulated). I would appreciate you explaining what you have identified within the state budget to be cut, so that the additional costs of this amendment can be implemented.
This amendment is bad policy for Texas, and for her taxpayers. I challenge you to step outside the confines of your religious beliefs, and ask yourself if your support for this amendment was truly in the best interest of your constituents. I am saddened that for myself and many others this is what you will be remembered for, and not the many other good things that you are working for in this great state of ours.
Respectfully,
James D. Nunn

McCall
For those of you who live in Brian McCall's district, he voted against the anti-gay foster care bill that is the subject of James' e-mail. You might want to call his office or send a letter thanking him. Too often our legislators only hear from us when we have negative things to say.
